About Us
Mofeed Foundation
Dr. Mofeed’s Vision – A Doctor Who Built Hope
The Mofeed Foundation was established to continue the vision and humanitarian legacy of Dr. Mofeed El Mokhallalati (1955–2019) — a pioneering surgeon, teacher, and leader who devoted his life to building Gaza’s healthcare system and empowering future generations of doctors.
From Classrooms to Operating Rooms
After earning his medical degree from Cairo University and completing his surgical fellowship (FRCS) in Ireland, Dr. Mofeed made the conscious decision to leave comfort behind and return home. He worked tirelessly in Jerusalem’s Al-Makassed Hospital and later across Gaza, where he helped establish the Palestinian Board of Medical Specializations, now recognized by the Arab Board of Medical Specialties.
A Dream Realized – Building Local Medical Schools
His dream of building local medical schools became reality through the founding of Al-Azhar University Faculty of Medicine and the Islamic University of Gaza Faculty of Medicine — both continuing to produce highly skilled doctors serving their communities today.
A Lasting Legacy of Compassion and “Medical Resistance”
Known for his humility, mentorship, and belief in what he called “medical resistance,” Dr. Mofeed inspired countless young physicians to serve with compassion, resilience, and integrity. The Mofeed Foundation carries forward this vision — turning his life’s work into a global effort to advance healthcare in conflict and low-resource settings.
